Safeguard Collective Bargaining Rights for Federal Workers

November 19, 2019

Dear Senator,

On behalf of the International Association of Machinists and Aerospace Workers (IAM), I urge you to sign on to Senator Gary Peters’ letter asking the committee to safeguard collective bargaining rights for Federal Employees and support federal workers in retaining their union rights on the job.

The 2020 Financial Services and General Government (FSGG) Appropriations Act (H.R.3351) is now in the conference and we need your help.  There is a provision in the House bill titled Section 749 that offers protections for federal workers.  We need Senators to support keeping this provision in the bill. This language will require agencies to abide by current law and bargain in good faith with federal employee unions.

The current administration has attacked federal workers’ collective bargaining rights with these imperious executive orders.  These government employees have been condemned for expressing their voice on the job and have suffered through a nasty shutdown that left many of them financially stressed.

We know you have the power to make things better for federal workers and respectfully request that you urge conferees to supports the inclusion of provision 749 in the FSGG final appropriations bill.  Let us work together to dismantle some of the damage done to these federal workers, of which many are your constituents.

To sign on to the letter, please contact Marie Talarico at Marie_Talarico@hsgac.senate.gov or at (4-9872). For more information, please contact Government Employees Director Jim Price at (301) 967-4753 or via email at jprice@iamaw.org.

Thank you,

Robert Martinez, Jr.
International President
